In this blog we will be discussing the educational app of... Quizlet!

There are many apps that are used for educational purposes for all types of subjects. Some apps help with studying for a test while others help create and design group projects. One of the apps that I found myself always using during my undergraduate years was Quizlet.
Quizlet's Mission
To help students practice and master whatever they're learning.
Quizlet follows their mission by allowing students and teachers to create and share online learning materials. Quizlet offers tools for students to make flashcards, practice spelling, play learning games, test their knowledge, collaborate with other students, and more.
Description
Quizlet will work on both a computer or a mobile device. They way quizlet works is by having different tools that allows the student or the teacher to create study sets with terms and definitions. You can add images to the sets to have a visual representation of what you are trying to study. You can also add audio to the sets so that you can also listen to the definitions. There are six different ways to study that quizlet offers. They are flashcards, learn, speller, test, scatter, and space race. Flashcard allows you to study by reviewing the material, shuffle/randomize, or listen with audio. The learn option will track the correct/incorrect answers and retest the ones you've missed. Speller option is where the learner has to type what they hear in this audio-powered study mode. Test will randomly generate tests based on your flashcard set. Scatter is more like a game, it is a race against the clock to drag and match terms/definitions. Lastly, space race is where the student types in the answer as the terms/definitions scroll across the screen. The intended audience for quizlet is for teachers and students who study all kinds of subjects. Both the student and the teacher can publish the material. Many teachers use quizlet as a study guide for many of their exams.
Design Review
Based on the look of Quizlet, it is very clean and they color they choose to represent their branding, blue, is perfect when creating an app for students where they will be studying. Studying is already stressful and the color blue has ties with relaxation and is easy on the eyes. Quizlet does follow good design principles. The maximum number of terms you can add to a set is 2,000. This is the only limitation that I found and it isn't a bad one. I hope I don't ever have to make a set of over 2,000 terms. Quizlet does support Universal Design, accessibility, and Universal Design for Learning. It definitely shows means of representation, action and expression, and engagement.
Educational Value
Quizlet is used for learning through studying. For example, I took an upper level art history class and our exam was based on learning early photographies that were taken in either black and white or sepia. We had to learn the date the photograph was taken, the name of the photographer, the medium used, and the title of the photograph. Quizlet came in handy with this course because I was able to make flashcards with the information of the photograph and include the image itself. Quizlet can be referred to the communities of practice concept. Students can form a group and study together with the flashcards and even complete with each other on the games that Quizlet offers. Quizlet can also be referred to cognitive apprenticeship since it helps learn the subject they are studying for. Compared to other mlearning technologies, quizlet is fairly easy to work with and navigate through. It is simple and clean yet not too simple to where it isn't appealing to the audience.
Conclusion
Overall Quizlet is a very beneficial app for both students and teachers. Personally, this app has been a great help with my studies in classes that required memorization for an exam. I would recommend this app for students who need help studying terms. I have added a screenshot of a study set I created for an Intro to Photography class I took during my undergraduate years.
